Delhi’s Leader of Opposition, Vijender Gupta, accused Chief Minister Atishi of engaging in political theatrics to gain public sympathy. His comments come after a social media post showed Atishi working amidst empty boxes at her official residence.

Gupta criticised the post, calling it “Aam Aadmi Party’s new drama”. He said, “Atishi has become skilled in staging these dramas under the guidance of her leader, Kejriwal. She is now trying to play the victim card by sharing such photos, much like Kejriwal did in the past.”

Insult to woman CM: Sanjay Singh

  • Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that Atishi’s belongings were placed there after the PWD handed over the keys to her on Sunday, but her possessions were later forcibly removed.
  • “On what grounds did the L-G throw out her belongings?” questioned the AAP MP.
  • “This insults an elected woman Chief Minister and the mandate of people… Atishi even held a meeting at the Camp Office after taking possession of the residence.” he added.
  • “I have the official document to prove that Arvind Kejriwal vacated the house with no dues pending,” Singh stated.
  • On Wednesday, sources from the L-G office said ‘official CM residence is not officially the CM’s residence’.
  • The Public Works Department (PWD) had sealed the Chief Minister’s residence.

During a visit to Atishi’s residence at AB-17, Mathura Road, Gupta pointed out that the bungalow had been home to prominent Delhi politicians, including former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. “This is the same residence where Sheila Dikshit governed Delhi for 10 years, and Sisodia also ran the government for almost 8 years. It’s a magnificent complex with multiple luxury cars and working staff. So why this drama with empty boxes?” he questioned.

Gupta further noted that Atishi also operates out of a newly renovated office in the Delhi Secretariat, which he claims was refurbished with “crores of rupees, resembling a five-star hotel”. Referring to the viral image of Atishi working next to an empty chair symbolising her respect for Kejriwal, Gupta added, “She already has a lavish office and a beautiful residence. Why then does she want to illegally occupy the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ at 6, Flagstaff Road, Kejriwal’s residence?”
