AAP’s candidate list reflects a sense of desperation: BJP
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva has criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for releasing its first list of 11 candidates, claiming it reflects a sense of “desperation” within the party and an erosion of confidence in its leadership.
“While every political party has the freedom to field candidates as per its political strategy, the manner in which the AAP released its candidate list today sends a clear message that Arvind Kejriwal is in despair,” Sachdeva said.
He pointed out that the absence of prominent leaders in the first list, such as former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and other key figures like Satyendar Jain and Gopal Rai, indicates that the party is facing a crisis.
“Generally, political parties include their prominent leaders in the first list. But now, it’s evident that AAP is worried about anti-incumbency,” he added, suggesting that the party may be avoiding the inclusion of high-profile names due to public discontent.
Sachdeva further accused Kejriwal of releasing the list hastily to divert public attention from the ongoing controversy surrounding his alleged involvement in a luxury bungalow scandal. “It seems like this list was rushed out to shift focus away from the questions surrounding Kejriwal’s lavish lifestyle,” he said.
BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor criticised Kejriwal for attempting to shift the blame for anti-incumbency onto his party MLAs. “The list makes it clear that Kejriwal is trying to offload the burden of public anger onto his own lawmakers,” Kapoor said.
“However, Kejriwal must understand that the real anger among the public is not against the MLAs but against his corruption. He has no moral right to contest elections anymore,” he added.
