In a fiery critique against the BJP-ruled Central Government, the AAP launched an attack over the alarming rise in crime incidents across the Capital. Following reports of a trader being openly extorted in Rohini on Sunday, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and senior party leader Manish Sisodia expressed concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi.

‘People feel unsafe’

Gangsters operate openly in Delhi, making no trader or ordinary citizen feel safe. If the BJP cannot handle law and order, it should transfer this responsibility to the elected government of Delhi. — Manish Sisodia, AAP minister

Addressing mediapersons, Kejriwal questioned the BJP’s competence in managing Delhi’s security, stating, “If the BJP cannot even manage law and order in Delhi, how can the people trust them to govern the entire country? Delhi residents deserve a safer environment.”

Sisodia said, “Not a single day goes by without reports of open shootings or extortion demands from various parts of Delhi. In an effort to protect gangster networks, the BJP has completely destroyed law and order in the city; the situation has never been this dire.”

He added that the current state of affairs resembles the crime-ridden Mumbai of the 1990s, a period dominated by underworld syndicates. “Gangsters operate openly in Delhi today, making no trader or ordinary citizen feel safe. Businesspeople now fear that any success in their trade will attract calls from gangsters,” he said. “The Delhi Police, once known as an exceptional force, has been rendered ineffective by the BJP,” he added.

The AAP leaders reiterated their long-standing demand for the transfer of law enforcement powers to the elected Delhi Government. Sisodia added that under the leadership of Kejriwal, the situation would be brought under control within days. “If the BJP cannot handle law and order, it should transfer this responsibility to the elected government of Delhi,” he said.

“Despite being the capital, incidents of shootings and extortion occur daily in every corner of the city. Why isn’t the BJP taking responsibility, given that maintaining law and order under the Constitution is its duty at the Centre?” Sisodia said.
