Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, held a press conference on Sunday, urging citizens to question the AAP leaders about their decade of broken promises and governance failures. His remarks came in response to former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s recent call for AAP leaders to engage with the public.

Gupta encouraged residents to confront the AAP officials with pressing issues affecting their daily lives. “Show them the garbage in your neighbourhoods, broken roads, clogged sewers, and ask why pollution in Delhi is so high,” he said. He listed critical concerns, including the state of the Yamuna river, stubble burning in Punjab, the financial woes of the Delhi Jal Board and the lack of sewage treatment facilities.

He specifically highlighted the failure of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which he claims has not benefitted citizens over the age of 70 in Delhi, and the lack of ration cards for 90,000 underprivileged residents. “Why are these individuals being neglected?” Gupta asked, stressing the need for accountability.

At the press conference, attended by BJP MLAs, including Abhay Verma and Ajay Mahawar, Gupta accused the AAP of becoming “a party of deceit”. He asserted, “Misleading the public and making false promises has become their habit.”

He also criticised the government for politicising the deployment of marshals for pollution control, claiming they ignored an order from the Lieutenant Governor to deploy 10,000 defence volunteers.

“Whom is Atishi trying to mislead with her promise to prepare a proposal in a week?” Gupta questioned, referring to the AAP’s response to pollution control measures.

He pointed out that despite a meeting with the Lieutenant Governor on October 5 to discuss the regularisation of marshals, no action had been taken.

Gupta said, “Without these marshals, pollution control measures are ineffective, and the people of Delhi are forced to breathe polluted air in a gas chamber-like atmosphere.”

In addition to issues of environmental neglect, Gupta accused the AAP government of corruption in the construction of 24 hospitals and favouritism in appointments at the Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University.

He concluded by calling for a special session of the Assembly to address these critical issues.

“The people deserve to know how the AAP has become completely incompetent and has been deceiving them for the past decade. It is time to remove them from power,” Gupta asserted.
