A total of 2,764 construction sites have been inspected while a fine of Rs 17.40 lakh has been imposed on 76 violators as part of the anti-dust campaign, which began on October 7 and will finish on November 7.

Environment Minister Gopal Rai said, “To reduce pollution during the winter, the government has rolled out the Winter Action Plan, and it is being implemented on the ground by various departments. The Green War Room is closely monitoring this effort.”

A total of 523 teams, drawn from 13 departments, are inspecting construction sites across Delhi to ensure compliance with the city’s 14-point anti-dust guidelines. “These teams are tasked with continuous inspections, and strict action is being taken against those violating the norms,” Rai added.

The 14 mandatory anti-dust norms include measures such as the installation of anti-smog guns, the covering of construction material with tarpaulin and spraying water regularly to prevent the spread of dust.

Rai said, “The government will take firm action against construction sites that fail to implement these dust control measures. Fine will be imposed on violators, while the sites may also be shut down in severe cases.”

As part of its broader efforts to combat air pollution, the government has also deployed 85 Mechanical Road Sweeping (MRS) machines and 500 water sprinklers across the city. Additionally, 80 mobile anti-smog guns are being used in key hotspot areas. In November, these anti-smog guns will function in three shifts to maximise their impact.

The Environment Minister urged residents to report irregularities in construction and demolition activities via the Green Delhi app. He also stressed the need for public participation to the government’s efforts to curb pollution.
