Rs 50,000 fine for dust pollution

With air quality dropping to “poor” in the city, the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) carried out inspections at construction sites, issuing challans of Rs 50,000 for each violation of dust mitigation measures. “The NDMC has constituted inspection of construction sites for enforcing dust mitigation measures, and as many as 30 challans of Rs 50,000 each (total Rs 15 lakh) have been issued as per the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal (NGT),” an NDMC statement said on Wednesday.

Six-storey facility for kids

The Delhi Government on Wednesday announced the construction of a state-of-the-art six-storey integrated building at the Sewa Kutir Complex at Kingsway Camp that will provide a safe and healthy environment for children under care. The current infrastructure of Sewa Kutir has significantly deteriorated, especially after the floods of 2023, according to an official statement. Women and Child Development Minister Kailash Gahlot said the redeveloped building will mark a significant step forward in providing the best care for vulnerable children.

Ration card row: Cong seeks probe

Former Delhi Food and Civil Supplies Minister and Congress leader Haroon Yusuf called for a thorough investigation by the Lieutenant-Governor into the AAP government’s alleged failure to issue ration cards to 14.64 lakh applicants over the past decade. Yusuf condemned the Kejriwal government for not allotting a single new ration card in 11 years, despite a growing population that has reached 2.5 crore, with 40 per cent classified as poor and eligible for subsidised rations. He said this while addressing a press conference on Wednesday.
