2 held in hit-and-run case injuring 2 cops
Two 17-year-old boys were apprehended in connection with yesterday’s hit-and-run incident in Delhi in which two traffic police personnel were dragged for 20 metres, police officials said on Monday.
The Delhi Police have recovered the vehicle involved, and action under the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act is underway against its registered owner, police officials added. The car involved is registered in the name of a resident of Vasant Kunj, further action under the MV Act is being pursued against him.
The incident occurred on the evening of November 2 at the Ber Sarai traffic light near Kishangarh.
“A PCR call was received at the Kishangarh police station wherein a vehicle had reportedly hit traffic personnel on duty. When the police team reached the spot, ASI Pramod Singh and Head Constable Sailesh Chouhan had already been taken to the hospital.” DCP (South West), Surendra Chaudhary said.
Both officers had sustained minor injuries and were reported to be in a stable condition upon arrival at the hospital. ASI Pramod Singh and HC Sailesh Chouhan were conducting traffic enforcement on Vedant Deshika Marg at 7:45 pm when a vehicle approached close to them, the DCP said.
“According to his statement, HC Sailesh signalled the driver to stop, which he initially complied with, but as the official approached, the driver attempted to flee, dragging the officers for around 20 meters before speeding off,” he added.
The official said the driver created obstruction in the duty and had tried to kill the police officials by dragging them on his car for over 20 meters. A case has been registered.
