Eighteen police officers of the Delhi Police will be conferred with medals on the Independence Day, including two President’s medal and Meritorious Service Medals (MSMs) for others.

IPS Atmaram Vasudeo Deshpande, Joint Commissioner of Police (JtCP) and Shashi Bala, retired Assistant CP will be conferred with President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM).

Deshpande had joined the Goa Police Service in the year 1998 as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) through the Goa Public Service Commission and was inducted in the IPS in 2011. He was awarded with Goa Chief Minister’s Gold Medal (Police) for meritorious service in 2011, President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2013 and DGP’s Insignia for exemplary performance in Andaman & Nicobar Islands in 2017.

In the Delhi Police, he held the positions of Additional CP, Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC), Additional CP, Headquarters (Welfare) where he set up Welfare Unit of Delhi Police and made it operational within a short period of time.

He also reinitiated the grievances redressal initiative of CP Delhi ‘Jansunwai’. He is currently posted as Joint CP Operations, Delhi, where he is managing Deployment, PCR and Communications units.

Shashi Bala was enlisted in Delhi Police as constable in the year 1985 and got selected as Sub Inspector in the year 1988 and retired after completion of service in July.

During her tenure as ACP/Crime against Women (CAW) in New Delhi District, she looked after the important task of VVIP route duties, she also functioned as Special Executive Magistrate and trained around 30,000 school children in self-defence techniques in the New Delhi District.
