Delhi police team to assist in probe
A team from the Special Cell of the Delhi Police is being sent to Mumbai to assist in the investigation of the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, police sources said.
The Mumbai police crime branch is investigating the case from multiple angles, including a possible contract killing or business rivalry over a slum rehabilitation project.
Besides, the Maharashtra Assembly elections are round the corner and Siddique was a prominent leader of the NCP (Ajit Pawar), an ally of the BJP. Recently, another NCP leader — Sachin Rammurath Kurmi — was stabbed to death in Byculla in the Ghodapdeo area when he was out for a walk after dinner.
Meanwhile, the police are probing a social media post in which the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has allegedly claimed the responsibility for the murder. Besides claiming hand in the killing, the post read, “Anyone who helps Salman Khan or the Dawood gang should be prepared. If anyone gets any of our brothers killed, we will respond. We never strike first.”
The post is allegedly linked to Shibu Lonkar, a Bishnoi gang member. Lonkar, believed to be Shubham Rameshwar Lonkar, was arrested earlier this year in connection with illegal weapons and had ties with Anmol Bishnoi, Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother.
