Delhi Police nab 140 for narco offences
The Delhi Police have arrested 140 people from 907 locations, seizing a substantial haul of narcotics and illegal firearms under the operation codenamed ‘Kavach 6.0’.
The operation involved coordinated raids across all 15 police districts, said a senior official.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Bhatia said, “A total of 139 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were registered.”
The raids resulted in the seizure of 870 grams of heroin, 200 kg of ganja, 16 grams of cocaine and 404 grams of MDMA (ecstasy).
Besides, police personnel also confiscated Rs 34,000, a 20-gram gold chain, 15 stolen motorcycles and a tempo.
Furthermore, 14 individuals were apprehended under the Arms Act, leading to the seizure of six country-made pistols.
Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Devesh Chandra Srivastva said since the launch of operation ‘Kavach’ in May 2023, they had arrested 1,268 narco-offenders in 886 cases under the NDPS Act. He said they had seized 71 kg of heroin, 1,293 kg of cocaine, 3,241 kg of ganja, 103 kg of opium and 50 kg of charas so far.
During the latest phase of the operation, the police authorities also cracked down on the sale of illegal liquor, resulting in 207 arrests and the registration of 208 cases under the Delhi Excise Act.
Additionally, in the eastern parts of the city, the police teams targeted illegal pan shops operating within a 100-metre radius of schools, prosecuting 44 violators under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (COTP) Act for selling tobacco products near educational institutions.
