The polling for a vacant seat on the 18-member Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is scheduled for September 26 during the civic body’s monthly House Assembly.

The Standing Committee consists of 12 members elected from various MCD zones and six members elected from the MCD House. In the ward committee elections held on September 4, seven members from the BJP and five from the AAP were elected. The six members elected from the MCD House during the 2023 Mayoral polls are AAP’s Aamil Malik, Mohini and Raminder Kaur, and BJP’s Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Gajendra Singh Daral and Pankaj Luthra.

Currently, the AAP and BJP have eight and 10 members, respectively, on the Standing Committee. The vacancy occurred following Sehrawat’s election to the Lok Sabha from West Delhi, prompting this upcoming election to fill the seat. The result of this election will have a significant impact on the control of the MCD’s finances.
