Delhi Mayor addresses sanitation issues in Shahdara north zone

Mayor Shelly Oberoi conducted an on-ground inspection of the Shahdara north zone on Wednesday to review the local cleanliness system and address the ongoing sanitation challenges. The visit focused on areas such as Road No. 65, Janata Colony, Gorakhpark and Babarpur, where residents and local officials highlighted issues regarding garbage collection and drainage management.

During her inspection, Oberoi was informed by local councillors about persistent problems with the ‘dhalav ghar’ (garbage collection point) in the area. Councillors expressed concern that garbage was not being regularly collected, leading to waste accumulation and public inconvenience. The Mayor immediately instructed officials to ensure timely collection of garbage, adding that additional tippers should be deployed if necessary.

“Regular garbage collection is crucial for maintaining cleanliness, and I want to make sure there are no gaps in the system. If needed, we will arrange more tippers for the job,” said Oberoi.

One of the major concerns raised by residents was the clogged and unmanaged Drain No. 52 on Babarpur Road. Locals complained that not only was the drain never cleaned, but people were also dumping household waste into it, exacerbating the situation. The Mayor directed officials to clean the drain within three days and ordered that progress updates be shared twice daily on WhatsApp at 7 am and 7 pm. “The cleanliness of the city is AAP’s priority, and any negligence in this matter is simply unacceptable,” Oberoi stressed. The Mayor then visited Loni Road, where residents pointed out other sanitation issues.
