In a move to ease the process of school upgradation, Delhi L-G VK Saxena has announced that societies running schools in the Capital will no longer have to pay additional charges for upgrading from primary or middle schools to senior secondary level.

This decision announced on Saturday, which follows a ruling by the Delhi High Court, exempts exempted Income Tax societies from paying additional Floor Area Ratio (FAR) charges, making it easier for them to upgrade their institutions without facing bureaucratic hurdles.

The move aims to streamline the process and reduce the red tape faced by schools seeking to expand. The L-G has directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to modify the lease deeds for these societies, ensuring these can use the additional FAR required for upgradation without incurring extra costs.

As part of the new process, the DDA has issued standard operating procedures (SoPs) for schools to apply for upgradation. Schools must submit an NOC from the DDA, along with approval from the Education Department, affiliation certificates from relevant educational boards (such as CBSE or ICSE), and proof of Income Tax exemption.

The DDA will verify that the school has no outstanding dues and has not occupied unauthorised areas before issuing the NOC.
