Over 25 percent posts of paramedics in CAPFs lying vacant, Parliament told

Over 25 percent posts of para-medical staff in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) are lying vacant, the government informed Parliament on Wednesday.

"The total number of posts vacant of the paramedical staff as on November 27, 2024 in the CAPFs and the Assam Rifles are 2,554 against total sanctioned strength of 9,621," Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai said in the Rajya Sabha in response to a question by Member of Parliament Derek O' Brien.

Besides the Assam Rifles, the CAPFs include the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Shashtra Seema Bal (SSB), which come under the control of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

With 3,502 posts, the CRPF has the highest number of authorised para-medics, followed by BSF with 2,313 and ITBP with 1,622. The deficiencies in these forces are 1,104, 860 and 184, respectively.

The Ministry’s data also revealed that Assam Rifles has the highest ratio of deployment of paramedical vis-à-vis number of personnel at 19.48 : 1000, followed by ITBPO with 16.05 : 1000. CISF has the lowest at 1.07 : 1000
