Defence raises questions over identity of witness

During cross examination, defence counsel has raised many questions over the identity of one of the witnesses who CBI claimed that he worked as servant at the house of deceased advocate Sukhmanpreet Singh Sidhu, alias Sippy Sidhu.

The prosecution conducted the examination-in-chief of the servant Jeevan Singh, alias Sunny Singh, on September 5, 2024. In a chargesheet, the CBI had claimed that a day before murder, Kalyani Singh visited office of the deceased around 1 pm which was corroborated by the servant.

The servant claimed that Sippy was upset over Kalyani’s behaviour. When the servant asked Sippy why he was upset, the latter told him that Kalyani was pressurising him for marriage and also threatening him.

While cross examining the witness defence counsel Sartej Singh Narula raised many questions over the proofs of his name. The witness said his name was mentioned as Sunny Singh and not Jeevan Singh on documents like PAN card and voter card.

The witness said he did not have any documents on which Jeevan Singh was mentioned as his name. He said in all his statements to the CBI his name was mentioned as Jeevan Singh. He said in his birth certificate his name was mentioned as Sunny Singh. The witness said he also had a Facebook page with the name of Jeevan Singh for which no documents were required.
