The local police have registered two separate cases against six persons on the charges of illegal sand mining and arrested one of the suspects.

In the first case, the police booked three persons — identified as Karamjit Singh of Mehmuana village, Jassa Singh of Katora village and Lakhwinder Singh of Gobind Nagari of the district.

ASI Balwant Singh, investigation officer (IO), said following inputs, a raid was conducted near Bandala village in the district, in which Jassa was arrested while the other two managed to escape. Meanwhile, the police recovered three sand-laden tractors from the spot.

In another case, the police booked Rajbir Singh of Bohi Qadrabad village, Vijay Masih of Nurpur village and Gurlal Singh of Gatta Badshah village.

ASI Satnam Singh, Investigating Officer (IO), said following inputs, a raid was conducted near Bamb Nau Bandala village in the Makhu block, in which two tractor-trailers of sand were recovered.

Two separate cases were registered against the six suspects under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 21 (3) of the Mines and Mineral (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, at the Arif ke police station.
