‘Deeksharambh’: Induction-cum-foundation course starts at national dairy institute
The ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal, began "Deeksharambh: Induction-cum-foundation course," a two-week orientation programme for newly admitted students of BTech (dairy technology, food technology, and biotechnology), MTech, and MSc programmes. The programme, which will last till November 18, aims at familiarising students with the institute’s culture, rules, and resources, ensuring a smooth transition into their academic journey.
Dr Dheer Singh, Director and Vice-Chancellor of ICAR-NDRI, was the chief guest of the programme, while Dr Rajan Sharma, Joint Director (research), and other dignitaries were also present there. Faculty members, newly admitted students, from SRS, Bengaluru, also joined the event online.
In his presidential address, Singh inspired students to embrace innovation and curiosity and work hard, throughout their life. He spoke of the countless opportunities awaiting them and the challenges to be conquered, personal growth to be embraced and lifelong friendships to be built. Each student, he urged, should step beyond their comfort zone, remain open to fresh ideas. Singh also highlighted the institute’s unwavering commitment to a safe and inclusive campus, emphasising NDRI’s strict zero-tolerance policy on ragging.
The students were introduced to NDRI academic and research activities. The sessions provided an overview of key aspects such as examination protocols, thesis submission guidelines and attendance requirements. They also learned about hostel rules and regulations to ensure a comfortable stay. A special session on teamwork helped the students bond and learn the importance of collaboration.
In MTech courses, 45 boys and 33 girls (total 78) students have joined. Under the BTech (dairy technology course), 33 boys and 17 girls (total 50) students have joined. Under the new bachelor course of food technology a total of six boys and 11 girls(total 17) students have joined, whereas in the BTech biotechnology other new courses six boys and nine girls (total 15) students have registered themselves.
