Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain today asked for a fact-finding in the farm fire incidents that occurred in the Dera Bassi area. Chairing a review meeting of the nodal officers, she said a probe would be opened to find out the reasons for the stubble being set on fire by farmers.

The district had reported 26 cases, out of which only six were found to be correct on ground with signs of burning. All six cases belonged to the Dera Bassi area. The Chief Agricultural Officer would submit the report by Wednesday with minute details. These details should include the area under paddy in a particular case, machinery available, reason behind the fire, of each case so that an analysis report could be prepared.

The DC directed the nodal officers to submit details of those incidents, too, for which evidence of burning were not found but were reported by Punjab Remote Sensing Center. She said the number of incidents reported was more but when the teams rushed to the spot, there were no signs of burning.
