DC asks officials to perform duty with Sewa Bhawna on Gurpurb

To mark the 555th Prakash Purb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev on November 15, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal today urged officials from various departments to approach their duties with a sense of ‘Sewa Bhawna’ (selfless service) to ensure that devotees face no difficulties during the religious celebrations in the holy city.

In a meeting with officials at the District Administrative Complex (DAC), the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the large number of devotees expected and announced the establishment of a control room, reachable at 01828-222169, to assist the public.

To maintain law and order during the event, six duty magistrates have been appointed. The Deputy Commissioner also instructed police officials to set up additional police control rooms, provide sufficient parking, arrange entry points and deploy e-rickshaws for the convenience of the devotees.

Special arrangements are also being made for the Nagar Kirtan procession. Police officials informed that parking for devotees coming via Talwandi Chaudriyan would be available at the PUDA Colony, while those arriving from RCF would be directed to the grain market in Sultanpur Lodhi. Additionally, the bus stand has been temporarily shifted to the grain market from November 13 to 16 to ease traffic congestion.

Under medical services, health department teams would set up medical booths at key locations, including Gurdwara Sri Ber Sahib, Guru Nanak Stadium, Lohian Road and Talwandi Bridge. Emergency services would be available at the Sultanpur Lodhi Civil Hospital, with backup support at Tibba CHC. Adequate ambulances and Fire Brigade vehicles would also be on standby.

Municipal Council officials have been instructed to ensure cleanliness in the city twice a day, maintain streetlights in working condition and keep public toilets clean throughout the event.

Regarding the Kabaddi tournament at Guru Nanak Stadium, the Deputy Commissioner emphasised the need for proper arrangements to accommodate both teams and spectators. He also directed PSPCL officials to ensure an uninterrupted power supply from November 13 to 16 and to repair any loose or exposed electrical wires.

Lastly, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the deployment of NDRF divers to prevent any untoward incidents during the event.
