DAV College, Sector 10, claimed overall trophy of Panjab University Sports Meet (both men and women categories) for the session 2019-20. The college won two most prestigious trophies of Panjab University (PU) for general excellence in sports, Sir Shadi Lal Championship Shield (for men) and PL Bains Trophy (for women).

Both the trophies were awarded by Dr DP Singh, an Indian naturalist and academic administrator. He has served as Vice-Chancellor of three different universities, namely Dr Hari Singh Gour University, Banaras Hindu University, and Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya. He is the former director of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the chairman of the University Grants Commission.

Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, claimed second position in the men’s category, while Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, claimed runners-up position in the women’s category. Due to lockdown, the said function was not organised in the session 2019-20.

Panjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Raj Kumar applauded achievements of sportspersons. In the boys’ section, DAV College had won 12 championships, 10 runners-up positions and two third positions in different individual and team events. In the girls’ category, the college won seven championships, seven runners-up positions and three third positions in various sports disciplines. Overall, the college won 19 championships, 17 runners-up and five third positions in the Panjab University Inter-College tournaments.

Prof Prashant Kumar Gautam, Director, Physical Education and Sports, and Dr Rakesh Malik, Deputy Director, also attended the function.
