Abiding by the Akal Takht directions, former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Jagir Kaur submitted her reply in person at the Akal Takht secretariat on Wednesday.

On September 26, she was served a notice seeking an explanation within a week on a complaint submitted by individuals against her regarding over 20-year-old murder case of her daughter. She was also questioned over her alleged indulgence in “roma di beadbi” (dishonouring the hair).

In her written reply, she clarified that she was implicated in a false case out of political rivalry and that she had never indulged in “roma di beadbi”.

“The reply of these frivolous allegations could have been restricted to just two lines, yet I had explained to the Jathedar Sahib in detail the ulterior motive orchestrated by my opponents with an aim to defame and embarrass me. The Jathedar Saheb should also have either ignored it or could have conducted a thorough probe to check the facts before issuing this notice to me,” she said.

She was acquitted in the murder case of her daughter by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2018, following which she had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as an SAD candidate from Khadoor Sahib. She also served as the SGPC president twice after that.

She said she was deeply pained to get such a notice. “This notice was like rubbing salt on my wounds. In 1999, I lost my 18-year-old daughter, but my political rivals tested the patience of a mother and imposed a false case. By the grace of Almighty, I came out clean. Similarly, on another issue, I clarified that I come from a family which had served for the Khalsa Panth and maintained the ‘Sikh rehat maryada’ in the first place always,” she said.
