With just three days left for Dasehra, the preparations to celebrate the festival are underway in the city.

Artisans have prepared colourful effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran. Artisans from Agra had arrived in the city about a fortnight back and started work along the old jail road.

In the city, there are about 12 locations where the festival marking the triumph of good over evil is celebrated in a big way amid a gathering of thousands of people. These include sites on Ladowali Road, Basti Sheikh, Jalandhar Cantt, Adarsh Nagar, Basti Peer Daad, Master Tara Singh Nagar, Railway quarters and Dhan Mohalla.

Goldy Bhatia, who is on the management of Dasehra committee of Adarsh Nagar, said about 75-foot tall, illuminated effigies are set to be erected in a day or so. The mela is a big crowd puller for the city residents from far and near.”

Besides bigger melas, several small effigies of 5-10 feet height are also being readied, which are bought and burnt in smaller mohallas by residents.
