‘Dallewal critically ill’, AAP’s Kang gives adjournment notice in Lok Sabha to discuss farmers’ issues
Aam Aadmi Party MP from Punjab Malwinder Singh Kang on Wednesday gave a notice in the Lok Sabha to adjourn the House to discuss the ongoing farmer protests and the issues concerning the community.
Kang said in his notice that farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, 70, on hunger strike for agrarian issues for the last 22 days, was very ill and the doctors had described his state as critical.
"Farmers are the backbone of the country and are facing many pressing issues," Kang said urging suspension of all other businesses to discuss the matter.
The Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, chaired by former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, had in its report to Parliament on Tuesday recommended legal guarantee for MSP terming the move essential and game-changer for farmers.
The committee had argued that such a statutory backing to MSP would uplift the lives of farmers and yield more returns than investments in terms of finances that go into securing MSP.
