Dagar finishes strong, helps her team win Aramco title

Indian golfer Diksha Dagar rose to the occasion with three birdies in the last four holes for a closing 4-under 69 and combined superbly with her teammates to win the Aramco Team Series title here. Diksha bagged only her second LET title. She also became the second Indian after Aditi Ashok to win more than once on LET. Aditi has won three times. The team scored 12-under in the final round to get to a 41-under total for a three-stroke victory. It was also the biggest payday for the 20-year-old Diksha, who earned $50,000 from the winning team’s prize money of $150,000. Tvesa Malik, who led one of the 36 teams, took her team to a tied-9th finish.

Anand beats Kasparov again in Croatia
Former world champion Viswanathan Anand defeated long-time rival Garry Kasparov for the second consecutive time, in the 13th round of the Croatia Grand Chess Tour’s blitz event. He had beaten Kasparov on the first day too. The victory came for the Indian maestro after three straight draws, against Anish Giri, Jan-Kryzstof Duda and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. He followed it up with a superb win over Ian Nepomniachtchi.

All SL first team players test negative for Covid
The entire Sri Lankan first team has returned negative in the latest RT-PCR tests ahead of the limited overs series against India. It is now expected that the players would be allowed to enter the bio-bubble by Monday as they complete a week-long hard quarantine after their arrival from the United Kingdom. After batting coach Grant Flower and a data analyst, along with a player in a separate bio-bubble, tested positive for Covid-19, the series that was originally scheduled to start on July 13 was pushed back by five days.

Kuss wins Tour de France Stage 15, Pogacar leads
American Sepp Kuss claimed his maiden victory on the Tour de France with a solo ride in the 15th stage as defending champion Tadej Pogacar was barely bothered in the 191.3-km mountain trek from Ceret to Andorra. Pogacar heads into Monday’s rest day with an advantage of five minutes and 18 seconds on Colombian Rigoberto Uran with Dane Jonas Vingegaard in third place, a further 14 seconds adrift.

Mehidy’s record haul bowls Bangladesh to rare away win
Off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz took the best match figures for a Bangladesh bowler overseas to help dismiss Zimbabwe for 256 and see his side to victory by 220 runs just before tea on the fifth day of the only Test. Zimbabwe had been set an imposing target of 477 for the win. Mehidy’s match figures of 9/148 are the best for a Bangladeshi bowler in an away Test.

England temps thrash Pak and clinch ODI series
England’s makeshift team turned in another A-list performance against Pakistan and sealed the ODI series at Lord’s in front of English cricket’s biggest crowd in almost two years.
