Cycling event in Sirmaur on Sept 29
To observe World Heart Day on September 29, a cycling event, aimed at promoting physical and mental wellbeing, will be organised in Sirmaur. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Ajay Pathak said the event, themed ‘Use Heart for Action,’ is designed to encourage healthy living and raise awareness about heart health.
The event will begin at 11.30 am from the CMO’s office in Nahan. Speaking about the initiative, Dr Pathak highlighted the increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) due to the fast-paced and stressful modern lifestyle. He pointed out that nearly 63 per cent of deaths in India are caused by NCDs, many of which are linked to lifestyle choices and have significant social and economic impacts.
Dr Pathak emphasised that major behavioral risk factors such as tobacco and alcohol use, poor dietary habits, lack of physical activity and air pollution contribute to the rise of NCDs.
He stressed the importance of regular exercise, tailored to an individual’s physical capabilities and advocated for incorporating yoga as a holistic approach to maintaining balance and promoting overall health and wellness.
In his appeal, Dr Pathak urged residents to participate in the cycling event and motivate others to join as well.
