Cyber thieves dupe man of Rs 1.3 lakh
A resident of Panchkula was duped of Rs 1.38 lakh by cyber thieves on the pretext of delivering a pre-ordered package. Srikant Slevraj, a resident of Sector 7, who works as an insurance broker said he had placed an order for medicines. The medicines were supposed to be delivered to his house on September 20, but he received a message stating the company had made two attempts to deliver the items and directed him to click an online link to upload his address details.
He said, “As directed, I added the details of my residence on the given web page after which it directed me to pay Rs 25 online through my credit card. I received an OTP on my phone after I filled-in the details and paid the requisite money. Suddenly, Rs 1.38 lakh were deducted from my card.”
