Cyber frauds: Rs 2.26 cr recovered in 4 months
The Cyber Crime Police Station of Mohali has made recoveries to the tune of Rs 2.26 crore in four months since its inception. Officials said the cyber crime wing of the Mohali police has made the second highest recoveries in the state after Ludhiana.
They said many cases of cyber fraud were in the final stage of investigation and the figure could go up considerably in the next three months.
The Cyber Crime Police Station, Phase VII, was set up in June 2024, along with such facilities in every district of the state. DSP (Cyber Crime) Jatinder Singh Chauhan said, “Recently, we registered a case regarding ‘digital arrest’ scam in which a retired couple was duped of Rs 45 lakh.”
“The key here is to report the fraud on national helpline number 1930 to increase the chances of recovery,” he added.
Cops said cyber frauds related to stock markets are most common these days after work from home and easy loan disbursement have become routine. The digital arrest scam cases have subsided now, cops revealed.
The Ludhiana police rank top in cyber crime recoveries with a sensational case in which Vardhman Group Chairman SP Oswal was duped of Rs 7 crore.
The police reportedly arrested two persons from Guwahati and recovered Rs 5.25 crore within two days in September.
