Cultural events take centre stage at vet varsity youth fest
The 13th Inter-College Youth Festival of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University entered the second phase with stage events.
Tarunpreet Singh Sond, Cabinet Minister for Hospitality, Labour, Rural Development, Tourism, and Cultural Affairs, Punjab, formally inaugurated the festival as the chief guest. He appreciated the artistic performances of students and invited them to come forward to set up their ventures and enterprises.
Dr Jatinder Paul Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor, urged the students to take part in the event zealously. He said the youth festival was a unique platform for students to show their hidden talents on. Acknowledging the strenuous curriculum of professional degrees, he said the students had very little time to engage in extracurricular activities; nonetheless, they had performed excellently.
The day was dedicated to folk songs, creative dances, and light vocal and group songs (Indian). The venue of these events was the Open Air Theatre at PAU. Deans and directors of the university, along with the faculty members, students, and staff of GADVASU and the PAU, attended the youth festival.
Mime, skit, one-act play, and mimicry would be performed tomorrow, beginning at 9 am. The venue will remain the same for these events, too.
Jasleen Johar of Khalsa College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Amritsar, won the folk song event, while the creative dance competition was won by Anvi Mahajan of Khalsa College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Amritsar.
