Chandigarh, April 13

The Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) has taken an initiative to connect with tricity people by organising “nukkad nataks”.

An official said the endeavour was to create awareness regarding public transport and to promote ridership in buses so that the city could be decongested of vehicular traffic and environmental pollution could be reduced.

The Samvaad Theatre Group has been engaged by the CTU to organise street plays. Under this initiative, a nukkad natak was presented to make people aware regarding the newly introduced Intelligent Transport System (ITS) in buses.

People were made aware of various facilities provided under the ITS project such as panic buttons and cameras in buses, mobile app to track the bus and the Command Control Centre at the ISBT, Sector 43, to monitor live surveillance of buses. The importance of cleanliness in public places was also highlighted. The street play also touched upon the airport shuttle bus service.
