Cross-FIR registered over PGI incident

A day after a doctor was allegedly manhandled by an attendant at the PGI Emergency Ward, the police have registered a cross FIR. The Emergency admissions were halted for several hours after the incident.

The police said they were informed about a quarrel in the Emergency, but by the time officers reached there, Dr Sehraj, who had initially made the complaint, had left the scene. The doctor later submitted a complaint to the PGI Chief Security Officer (CSO), which was forwarded to the police.

The doctor has alleged that he was physically assaulted by a patient’s attendant, identified as Meera. When a female security guard attempted to intervene, Meera twisted the former’s wrist and scratched her. Based on this complaint, the police filed a case against Meera.

Meera also submitted a counter-complaint, claiming that her sister-in-law was admitted to the hospital, and she and her brother were attending to her. She alleged that a nurse spoke rudely to her and misbehaved with her brother. She further claimed that security personnel escorted her brother out of the ward and attempted to push her out as well.

Meera stated that as she started recording the incident on her phone, it was forcibly taken away by the security staff. Acting on her complaint, the police have registered a case against the PGI Emergency staff.
