Cross-border arms smuggler held with two Glock pistols
Acting on a tip-off, CIA staff of the Amritsar rural police on Monday confiscated two sophisticated 9mm glock pistols smuggled from Pakistan. The police have arrested a weapon smuggler, identified as Shaganpreet Singh, a resident of the border village of Hardo Rattan.
He was arrested from near Gharindi village falling under the Gharinda police station here.
Manmeetpal Singh, in charge, CIA staff, said that the accused has links with Pakistan-based crossborder smuggler with pseudo name Rana. The weapons were smuggled with the help of drone.
“We got specific information that the accused was involved in trans-border smuggling of drugs and weapons. Following this a naka was put up near Gharindi village and the accused travelling on a bike intercepted. On seeing the police party he tried to flee but was overpowered by police and arrested,” he said. During search the police made the seizure of two Glock pistols. His previous record was being ascertained, he added. He would be produced in the court tomorrow seeking police remand, he said.
As dense fog had engulfed the region, there has been a spurt in the cross border trafficking using unmanned aerial vehicles by Pakistan based smugglers.
