Crop on 2 lakh acres damaged in Fazilka and Muktsar, no special girdawari ordered

The standing crop on nearly two lakh acres in just two districts of the state has been badly affected because of rains in the past one week. The government, however, is yet to order a special girdawari of the affected area.
While the crop on 70,797 acres in Fazilka have been affected, the area in Muktsar district is much higher. Official information available with The Tribune shows that the paddy crop on 1.26 lakh acres in Muktsar has been affected because of the rain. Sources in the Revenue Department said the maximum damage had been caused to the standing paddy crop, though in small pockets the cotton crop too had been destroyed.
Official sources in the department said a special girdawari would be ordered after monsoon was over.
To date, 110 houses in Fazilka, Ferozepur, Ludhiana, Faridkot and Muktsar (72) have been damaged and 20 persons have been injured. The state, in its daily report to the Centre, said it had opened 19 relief camps.
