The police have intensified their efforts to address the issue of illegal tenants in the city, registering four FIRs against house owners for failing to verify their tenants. The move aims to curb criminal elements operating unchecked due to the absence of tenant records.

The police registered cases under Section 223, BNS, against four owners who violated orders issued by the Commissioner of Police (CP), Jalandhar. The arrests were made following the filing of two FIRs at Police Station Division Number 5, one at Bhargo Camp and another at Basti Bawa Khel.

The Commissioner of Police emphasised that the tenant verification was critical for ensuring public safety and preventing crimes. He highlighted instances where unverified tenants had been involved in illegal activities or committed offences against property owners before fleeing. The lack of tenant records made it challenging for law enforcement to apprehend culprits.

The Commissioner warned that house owners who fail to comply with these legal requirements would face strict action for negligence.
