In response to mounting complaints from vehicle buyers in Delhi over delays in receiving their Registration Certificates (RCs) at the time of purchase, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot has initiated stringent measures against non-compliant dealers. Despite the Delhi government’s mandate for same-day issuance of RCs since 2021, delays of up to several weeks have been reported.

During a meeting with senior officials of the Transport Department on Friday, Gahlot emphasised the urgency of the issue, stating, “It is unacceptable that vehicle buyers are experiencing delays in receiving their registration certificates. The Delhi government has implemented provisions for immediate issuance, and any deviation from this will not be tolerated. We will take strict action against dealers who fail to adhere to this mandate, including suspension of their trade licences.”

“The hand-to-hand RC or RC printing facility at dealer points was established to eliminate long wait times and unnecessary visits to RTOs,” he said.

The initiative to introduce hand-to-hand registration certificate (RC) services was launched to streamline vehicle registration processes and enhance customer convenience.

Gahlot underscored the importance of timely RC issuance in maintaining the efficiency of the transport system and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Delhi, which registers approximately 6 lakh new vehicles annually, relies on a network of 263 authorized dealers to facilitate RC printing at dealer points. The minister’s directive underscores the government’s commitment to enhance service delivery standards and ensure that all vehicle owners receive their RCs promptly.
