CPI to celebrate centenary in Mandi on December 25-26
The Communist Party of India (CPI) will commemorate its 100th anniversary with a state-level celebration in Mandi on December 25-26. The event will begin on the evening of December 25 with a seminar dedicated to Comrade Bhagat Ram, a prominent CPI leader and advocate.
CPI Secretary advocate Des Raj announced that the seminar will feature prominent speakers, including Professor Apurvanand from Delhi University, retired Justice Vinod Kumar Sharma, Dr. Varayam Singh from JNU, and Shailender Kumar, National Secretary of the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA). Other participants will include veteran leaders, progressive intellectuals, and activists from CPI, CPM and allied groups. Poetry readings and cultural performances will follow the seminar.
On December 26, cultural presentations dedicated to late cultural worker Lavan Thakur will open the day’s events at the Seri stage, followed by a flag hoisting ceremony at Vipasha Sadan to mark the start of the centenary conference. CPI National Secretary Annie Raja and IPTA’s Shailender Kumar will be key guests. The event will honour deceased party leaders, with tributes offered through their families, and recognize senior leftist workers for their contributions.
Party leaders highlighted Mandi’s significance as Himachal Pradesh’s cultural capital and urged citizens to participate. They underscored CPI’s role in India’s freedom struggle and the Constitution’s development, while expressing concern over the rise of fascist forces.
