Covid rages on in Ludhiana district, death toll 71

146 fresh infections, six fatalities on Tuesday | 3 more areas declared micro-containment zones

Ludhiana, July 28

Covid-19 infected 146 people and claimed six lives in the district today. Three more areas, Model Town Extension, Uttam Nagar and Gurdial Enclave, were declared micro-containment zones, taking the number of zones in the city up to eight.

Those who lost their lives include a 60-year-old man from Chowni Mohalla (Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, DMCH), a 67-year-old resident of Miller Ganj (Fortis), a 68-year-old woman (SPS Hospital), a 75-year-old resident of Shimlapuri (Rajindra Hospital, Patiala), a 61-year-old resident of Salem Tabri (Mohan Dai Oswal Hospital), a 51-year-old resident of Janta Nagar who was admitted to SPS Hospital. The death toll of Ludhiana district has now gone up to 71. All deceased had co-morbidities.

Those who tested positive today include four inter-state travellers from Jamalpur, Manji Sahib (travelled to UP), Ambedkar Nagar (travelled to Bihar) and from Dhaka Colony, Model Town.

Seven healthcare workers testing positive today belong to Dhaba Colony, Bazzran Mohalla, Rishi Nagar, Basant Avenue in Dugri, Sukhdev Nagar, Lalton Kalan and New Bhagwan Nagar.

A pre-operative case from Tajpur Road also tested positive.

Eight infected persons untraceable

Eight persons testing positive are untraceable. They are from Mundian Khurd, Tajpur Road, Ram Lal Mohalla, Punjabi Bagh, EWS Colony and Tibba Road.

The other infections were reported from BRS Nagar, Jamalpur, Vardhman Colony, Salem Tabri, Habib Road, Joshi Nagar, Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Nagar, Kailash Nagar, Angad Dev Colony, Barewal, Model Town Extension, SBS Nagar, Partap Chowk, Sahnewal, Shahpur Road, Rajguru Nagar, Haibowal Kalan, Kitchlu Nagar, Chander Nagar and Ashok Nagar.

MLA infected

Samrala MLA Amrik Singh Dhillon has tested positive for Covid in a rapid antigen test. He is in home isolation. His swab sample has been sent to the lab and the report is awaited.
