Covid-19 ward set up at Jallianwala Bagh hospital

For the first time ever since the start of the Covid 19 pandemic, the district Health Department has set up a Covid ward at Jallianwala Bagh Martyrs’ Memorial Civil Hospital here. The hospital has reserved 72 beds for Covid patients. Of the total, 30 general beds and 12 ICU beds have been reserved for children. The remaining 30 beds are for adults.

Civil Surgeon Dr Charanjit Singh said the district had a total of 1,800 beds reserved for patients. So far, none of the infected patients had developed severe Covid symptoms in the recent days. All of them were in home isolation.

At present, the district has a total of five active cases. However, no new Covid case was detected today. The health authorities stated that the samples of patients, who tested Covid positive recently, have been sent for genome sequencing.

After witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases in some countries, the number of people wearing face masks at public places has somewhat increased. Health experts too have advised people to take precautions and wear face masks. The Health Department has already made it mandatory for staff to wear face masks at hospitals.

Officials stated that people should wash hands frequently and use face masks at crowded places. Health experts have especially warned those with co-morbid conditions and weak immunity to take extra care of their health.
