Court acquits 2 accused in 9-month-old snatching case
A local court has acquitted two persons Chinu and Simran arrested in a snatching case after the prosecution failed to prove the charges. The police had registered the case on February 16 for offences punishable under Sections 379-A and 411 of the IPC at the Sector 17 police station on the complaint of a woman.
She stated that on February 13, she was going towards the Sector 17 bus stand. Around 2.20 pm when she reached near the Nehru Park, Sector 22, a boy came near her on a motorcycle and snatched her gold chain and mangalsutra from her neck. Due to panic, her purse also fell down, which was also taken away.
After investigation, a charge-sheet against the accused was filed in the court. Charges under Sections 379-A and 411 of the IPC were framed against the accused to which they did not plead guilty and claimed trial.
Arvind Sandhu, counsel for both accused, argued that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges. He said that there was a three-day delay in filing the complaint. Besides, the recovered ornaments did not match with the jeweller’s invoice. After hearing the arguments, the court acquitted both.
