Couple climbs water tank, alleges police inaction against travel agent
Ludhiana, August 12
A couple alleging police inaction in a travel fraud case, climbed a water tank in a park near Ishmeet Chowk on Monday.
Amandeep Kaur with her husband Hardeep Singh, a resident of Dhuri, had climbed the water tank around 12.15 pm. After noticing the couple, the people raised the alarm and informed the police.
Police officials spoke to the couple over phone and assured them that action would be taken against the suspect. Following this, the duo came down after four hours. Later, police officials reached the spot.
The couple alleged that the travel agent had taken Rs 10 lakh from them to send them to England but even after over six months, he had failed to arrange the visa. Now, they had been demanding to return their money but the agent had been making hollow promises. Police complaints were also filed against the suspect but no action was being taken.
The couple said upset over the loss of money, they had decided to die by suicide by jumping off the water tank.
Gurmel, father of Hardeep, said he took a loan of Rs 10 lakh from bank and gave it to the agent for sending his son and daughter-in-law to England. After taking the money, the agent started misleading them.
ACP Jatin Bansal assured the duo that action would be taken against the agent. — TNS
