Despite testing positive for Covid-19, these senior citizens never lost hope. With their sheer determination and support of medical teams, they have come out winners against the deadly virus. Their age and multiple medical conditions were a major factor in their treatment, but not in front of their will to live. All these patients had to be put on high-flow oxygen during the treatment and today, they all are healthy and leading a normal life post-treatment at Mohan Dai Oswal Hospital.

Shakuntla Rani and Nand Lal Chawla have defeated Covid.

Shakuntla Rani (64) and her husband Nand Lal Chawla (65) from Malerkotla had to put on a brave face when their test report came positive.

“If we had lost hope, our family would have been in an emotional turmoil. For the sake of my family, I had to be strong and I always told my sons not to worry. I was sure of coming out a winner,” said Shakuntla.

She was also hypertensive and has been suffering from arthritis for the past 10 years. Her husband has no co-morbidity. Their two sons, their wives and children all tested negative.

Shiv Narayan Yadav (61) from Dhillon Nagar was the only one from the family to test positive. He also had acute bilateral pneumonia and viral infection.

“Me and my family underwent necessary precautions but still I tested positive. I thought, now that I have tested positive, I will not lose hope, but will fight back. Here I am today, fit and fine. I went to the hospital for a follow-up and all was good. Now, I am all positive towards life,” he said.

A 68-year-old Covid patient from Jamalpur was also a diabetic. The condition of his chest was bad and he was to be put on high-flow oxygen.

“One thing that I have learnt in the hospital is that the will and zest to live can help you overcome the virus. Once you lose hope, the body’s immune system also gets weak. Never let yourself feel low. If you have the urge to overcome the virus and the will to live, nobody can defeat you, be it the virus,” he said.

The chief executive officer of Mohan Dai Oswal Hospital, Dr Sanjeev Uppal, said patients should not lose their hope. “A positive attitude towards life and keeping the spirits alive really help in overcoming the situation. The medical team is always there to support and help patients,” says Dr Uppal. The chairman of the hospital, Dr Jawahar Oswal, has extended his best wishes to the team of doctors who are putting their best efforts to fight the pandemic.
