Bhana Sidhu case: Cops thwart ‘rail roko’ at Dhuri
Sangrur, February 1
Seeking unconditional release of YouTuber Bhana Sidhu and cancellation of all cases registered against him, the move of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Amritsar to block rail track and hold a dharna at Dohla railway-level crossing in Dhuri was today foiled by the district police.
Heavy police force was deployed and nakas set up at different points to prevent protesters from reaching Dohla railway-level crossing. The police personnel were also deployed on the railway-level crossings, situated near some villages, in the Dhuri area.
Despite heavy deployment of the police force in the Dhuri area, a large number of SAD (Amritsar) supporters, activists and leaders managed to gather at Kakkarwal village (near Dhuri) and hold a protest there. On getting information, a Superintendent of Police (SP) along with the force reached the village and talked to protesters.
For foiling the dharna and “rail rook” programme, the police reportedly detained hundreds of activists of the SAD (Amritsar) from different parts of the district. However, the Dhuri DSP could not tell total number of detained SAD (Amritsar) activists from the area falling under his jurisdiction.
The Sangrur SSP too did not attend mobile phone calls despite repeated attempts.
