Cops conduct checking at Amritsar railway station, bus stand

With a view to inculcating a sense of safety and security among the residents, the police on Friday carried out a special search operation at the railway station and the interstate bus terminus.
Around 450 cops, including SWAT teams, were deputed for these search operations, which were led by Additional Director-General of Police (ADGP), State Armed Police, MF Farooqui and Police Commissioner Jaskaran Singh, besides other officials, including DCP (Law and Order) Parminder Singh Bhandal and ADCPs Abhimanyu Rana and PS Virk.
During the drive, 30 sealing checkpoints were installed wherein the police checked the vehicles with triple riding, without number plates and those driving Bullet motorcycles with modified silencers, creating ‘patakha’ sound.
The ADGP said during the checking, the police also arrested a drug peddler with 7-gm heroin and Rs 1.87 lakh of drug money. The police seized the car he was driving. Besides, during the four-hour search operation, the police impounded 10 bikes and issued challans to 150 commuters for different traffic violations.
The police cordoned off the entire railway station from outside and inside and checked passengers and their bags using metal detectors and sniffer dogs. The police also checked the stalls inside the bus stand, besides checking hotels and guest houses located near the bus stand. He said the Punjab Police were committed to providing safe and secure environment to the residents besides creating a sense of terror among criminal elements. Therefore, the police were carrying out cordon-and-search operations on a regular basis. He urged the people to work in coordination with the police department in order to maintain law and order in Punjab by sharing information about miscreants.
