Cops bust 7-member extortion gang; 4 held

The police have busted a seven-member ring of gangsters by making four arrests on Friday. ASI Gurmeet Singh who was heading the police team said that those arrested have been identified as Yadwinder Singh Akash and Harmandeep Singh, both of Tarn Taran and Tejbir Singh and Harpreet Singh alias Happy Baba of Aladinpur village.

The ASI said the three who absconded were identified as Karanbir Singh, Jarmandeep Singh alias Arman Mana of Nanaksar Mohalla, Tarn Taran and Yodhbir Singh Yodha of Aladinpur village. ASI Gurmeet Singh said that the gang is armed with illegal weapons and is involved in a number of looting incidents.

They made phone calls to well off persons and sought huge amount in extortion. The ASI said that in case anybody refused to oblige them, they fired at the residence of the said person and tried to terrorise him to get the extortion money.

The ASI said the four who have been arrested were produced in court here today which sent them to three-day police remand. The ASI added that a case under Section 308 (7) and 11 of the BNS and Section 25 (6), (7), 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the gangsters. The ASI said that raids are being conducted to arrest the absconding gangsters.
