Cop nabbed for assault, firing at 2 neighbours
A firing incident occurred at Panjeta village on Wednesday evening left two villagers injured. A police constable was arrested. Pavittar Singh, a resident of the village and gunman assigned to a Magistrate in the district, allegedly opened fire at his neighbours, Ramanpreet Singh and his father Jagdeep Singh.
As per eyewitnesses, Pavittar’s vehicle intentionally swerved towards Ramanpreet and his friend when they were returning from the fields. They narrowly escaped. Afterwards, the suspect fired two shots and one of them grazed Ramanpreet’s head.
When Jagdeep rushed to his son’s aid, Pavittar hit him with the butt of his service weapon. The constable fled the scene but later intercepted the victims when they were en route to a hospital, ramming their bike with his car and firing gunshots again.
Ramanpreet said: “We were returning home when Pavittar tried to run us over with his vehicle. He fired shots and I managed to escape. I and my father were attacked again on the way to the hospital.”
Residents intervened, prompting the suspect to flee. The victims were hospitalised and the suspect was nabbed. Inspector Jagdev Singh said Pavittar suspected Ramanpreet of harassing women in his family but he denied the allegations. An attempt-to-murder case was registered against Pavittar on Thursday.
