With the stage-IV of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in force, construction works have been halted at 42 locations in the district in the past some days, while a total penalty of Rs 50,000 has been imposed on 56 persons for burning solid waste and garbage.

“The action has been taken under a special campaign being conducted in the urban area to implement the GRAP provisions. Water is being continuously sprayed on busy routes with two sprinkler vehicles. Apart from this, dust from the roads is being cleaned with sweeping machines,” said Anupama Anjali, ADC and District Municipal Commissioner.

She maintained that an intensive campaign would also be launched against the burning of wood and coal in hotels and dhabas of the district.
