A 50-metre stretch of the Dharampur-Sanawar road in Solan district has been badly damaged due to reckless construction work undertaken by a hospitality unit. The road stretch was damaged while the construction material was being transported to the unit. The road connects the Kalka-Shimla highway to Kasauli and hence witnesses a constant flow of commuters throughout the day. The influx of motorists increases manifold at the weekend.

The condition of the road stretch deteriorated with the onset of the monsoon season and puddles were formed at three spots. The most inconvenienced are two-wheeler riders, who not only face a bumpy ride but also their vehicles suffer more wear and tear.

Moreover, the Jal Shakti Department is digging the road to lay thick pipes for a potable water project. The work to lay pipes is at an advanced stage and once it is completed, the department will test the system. The work to repair the damaged road stretch will begin after the testing process is completed.

Executive Engineer, PWD, Kasauli, Gurminder Rana said that a Rs 25 lakh tender was floated for the repair of about three or four vulnerable patches on the Dharampur-Sanawar road. “The work has already been allotted and it will be accomplished by the month end,” he added.

He said that a culvert was being laid under a vulnerable road stretch near the hospitality unit to channel water. The hospitality unit had been asked to ensure proper channeling of water and dumping of muck so that the road was not damaged further.
