Constable stabbed to death during night patrol
A 28-year-old Delhi Police constable, identified as Kiran Pal, was reportedly stabbed to death while on night patrol duty in South East Delhi’s Govindpuri area early on Saturday.
According to the Delhi Police, Pal, stationed at the Govindpuri Police Station, was found with multiple stab wounds in a lane in Govindpuri Gali No. 13.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Sanjay Sain, said, “During a morning patrol, Kiran Pal attempted to stop three criminals, who attacked him with knives, leading to his death.”
Two of the attackers were arrested, while the third is still at large. The police arrested Deepak Max (20) following an encounter by the Crime Branch, while Krish Gupta (18) was nabbed by the local police from the same area.
“Deepak received a bullet wound in his leg in retaliation by our team when he opened fire at them during his arrest near DDA flats in the afternoon,” Sain said.
Deepak is recuperating in a hospital. The police suspect the accused were drug addicts and engaged in petty crimes.
On Friday night, the three men were riding a scooter in the area to target some people or a house for theft when they were accosted by Kiran Pal.
Pal, who was on his motorbike, spotted the trio near Govindpuri’s lane No. 13 around 5.30 am.
The accused threw stones at Pal in a bid to get away, but Pal parked his bike in front of their scooter and took the vehicle’s key. The accused took out a knife and stabbed him, the police said.
