An all-round performance by Raj Angad Bawa steered Chandigarh boys to second consecutive victory at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Vizag. Bawa contributed 30 runs and clinched three wickets as Chandigarh beat Vidarbha by five runs.

Vidarbha won the toss and decided to field. Chandigarh got an early blow as skipper Manan Vohra (5) was back to the pavilion. A 72-run partnership between Arjun Azad and Shivam Bhambr laid a strong foundation for the team. Arjun scored 39 off 26 balls (with five boundaries and one six), while top scorer Shivam Bhambri contributed 75 off 40 balls, studded with eight boundaries and four sixes. Bawa scored 30 off 18 balls, with one boundary and three sixes, to help the side post 191/9 in the stipulated 20 overs. Dinesh Parwani (4/56) took a majority of the wickets.

In reply, Vidarbha was once struggling at 89/5 but middle order batsman AV Wankhede’s valuable 72 off 36 balls, with three boundaries and seven sixes, brought the team out of trouble and closer to the target. Vidarbha needed 12 runs in the last over, but Jagjit Sandhu (3/41) dismissed two tail-enders and restricted Vidarbha to 186/9.
