Congress candidate and sitting MLA Surender Panwar on Friday took the command of his poll campaigning.

Scores of people and supporters gathered at his residence and welcomed him in the morning.

Notably, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Surender Panwar in an alleged money-laundering and illegal mining case on July 20. The special court sent him to judicial custody in Ambala Central Jail.

But the Congress trusted him and fielded him from Sonepat Assembly constituency. He reached Sonepat on September 12 to file his nomination in custody.

Panwar had filed a petition against the ED for declaring his arrest illegal in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The High Court allowed his petition on Monday. He was released from the Central Jail at Ambala on Wednesday. After being released from the jail he went to Vaishno Devi temple and reached Sonepat on Thursday late night.

On Friday, Panwar held a ‘Pad Yatra’ to meet his supporters and the voters in the city. He started his march from his residence in Sector 15 and visited the bus stand, Geeta Bhawan chowk, Subhash chowk, Kache quarter, Old DC road and ended at Delhi road office.

While addressing the gathering, Surender Panwar said that he came out from the jail due to the blessings of the Sonepat people. “I will serve every resident of Sonepat throughout my life,” Panwar said. Panwar further said that in the last five years, no stone was left unturned to make Sonepat shine, but the BJP candidate made the condition of Sonepat worse.

He appealed to the people to vote for the Congress to develop Sonepat.

MP Satpal Brahamchari was also present during the campaigning.
