New Delhi, July 8

Highlighting the contrast between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, the Congress on Monday said while PM Modi was heading for Moscow today, Gandhi would be going to Manipur for his third trio to the trouble-torn northeastern state.

‘Today, the non-biological PM goes to Moscow while the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha heads for Assam and Manipur,’ Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary in charge of communications, wrote on X.

PM Modi has not visited Manipur even once after ethnic violence between the Meiteis and Kukis broke out in the state in May 2023 and has been going on in the state since then.

Ramesh said PM Modi has not even met Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh even though Biren Singh is from BJP.

‘Of course, the drumbeaters of the non-biological PM have claimed that he stopped the Russia-Ukraine war for some time. Presumably, this Moscow trip will lead to even more bizarre claims,’ Ramesh wrote.

‘This is Rahul Gandhi’s third visit to Manipur ever since the state blew up fourteen months ago. The non-biological PM has not found the time nor even had the inclination to visit Manipur even for a few hours after the grave crisis erupted on May 3rd, 2023.  He has not even met the CM of the state – who happens to be from his own party – and other political leaders of the state including MLAs and MPs,’ Ramesh wrote pointing out PM Modi’s refusal to meet delegations of politicians visiting Delhi to seek help from him to restore normalcy in Manipur.

After the ethnic violence broke out in Manipur, Gandhi visited the state first in June last year. He again went to Imphal in January this year to kick off his ‘Manipur to Mumbai Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’.
